Mesa Verde Ancient Architecture: Selections from the Smithsonian Institution, Bureau of American Ethnology, Bulletins 41 and 51 from the Years 1909 and 1911
Published in Paperback by Avanyu Pub (01 July, 1999)
Authors: Jesse Walter Fewkes and Larry V. Nordby
Average review score:

Great information on a very significant ancient Indian site
This book took me back to the time the ancient Indians were building a massive residence that was paralleling the construction of Europe's castles and cathedrals. The Introduction places the first studies done by Fewkes in perspective. The pictures are intriguing; they assisted my mind's musing on who could create such a building in that isolated desert canyon so many years ago.

Author: Anna Grossnickle Hines
Average review score:

Great for park- loving todlers who are learning to talk!
Moompa Toby and Bomp is one of my daughters favorite books. Toby speaks like a two year old and the walk in the park is just the kind of adventure my daughter and I have together. She loved this story on her first birthday and still loves it at 2 1/2. In the beginning she experienced the story as Toby's story. Over time and the hundred plus readings, she has become more and more engrossed in Bomp's story.

Best One-Stop Guidebook for Northern California
As a busy parent of three children, I am always on the look out for new weekend adventures--this book has it all. It gives great history, detail, local color, places and events...even usable local area maps.

With listings by regions, Kim Weir has a succinct novelists eye for what makes Northern California beat. Makes great reading...I keep this large 1000 page pocket book at my nightstand to read colorful stories about places I might someday visit. Equally compact, I then load the book in my car for ready reference to see what's hot whereever we roam.

Written with the insight of Mark Twain, this is an excellent source for anyone wanting to capture the diversity of Northern California at it's greatest. Lot's of fun. Quite readible. Full of nice pictures.

Well worth the $ for the new 2000 edition. Congrats to Moon Press for another winner. Please keep those updates comming.

Moon Handbooks: Vancouver (1st Ed.)
Published in Paperback by Avalon Travel Publishing (March, 2000)
Author: Andrew Hempstead
Average review score:

The best of many guidebooks to Vancouver
I am a frequent traveler to Vancouver, and over the years have picked up a variety of books to city, and recently found this one in a Seattle bookstore. It is a smallish guide, but contains everything a traveler needs to make the most of a visit. I like to get out and about when on business-related travel, and found that the book has led me to many interesting places I never new existed (I had a great morning sea kayaking up the Indian Arm on the author's reccomendation). I also like reading about those quirky facts about places that are hard to come by, and again, the author knows the city well from the inclusion of many of these facts (Vancouver: Secrets of the City is a book devoted to the subject). The section on restaurants is extremely comprehensive, with all price ranges covered, and I found the author's picks spot on. The book ends with a chapter on nearby Victoria, a helpful addition.

Great Pictures
I met the book's photographer at Mount Rainier National Park, so I bought the book at the gift shop there. It has some great pictures. You can tell from the description of it (32 pages) that it's a tad short.
